19th Century Tibetan Thangka: Je Tsongkhapa & Gelugpa Lineage Masters | Silk Brocade Scroll

An authentic late-19th to early 20th-century Tibetan Thangka depicting Je Tsongkhapa (1357–1419), founder of the Gelug (Yellow Hat) school of Tibetan Buddhism, surrounded by lineage lamas and celestial figures.

Centrally seated in padmasana (lotus position), Tsongkhapa is rendered wearing the traditional yellow pointed pandita hat and monastic robes. His hands display the dharmachakra mudra (wheel of teaching gesture), flanked by lotus blossoms blooming at shoulder height. The central composition is framed by detailed cloud scrolls and lotus thrones, with an upper register of Buddha figures/lineage masters and a lower register featuring five Gelugpa lamas in meditative and teaching poses.

Hand-painted in mineral pigments on cotton canvas and mounted in a traditional multi-colored silk brocade textile border.
