Early 20th-Century Chinese Cloisonné Millefleur Vase

DESCRIPTION

A colorful early 20th-century Chinese cloisonné vase decorated with an exuberant millefleur, or “thousand flowers,” pattern.

Hundreds of stylized chrysanthemums and other blossoms in yellow, pink, blue, white, turquoise, black, and green fill the surface against a rich green enamel ground. Fine metal wires outline each flower and form the tightly patterned background, while exposed brass rims finish the flared mouth and foot.

The underside is impressed “CHINA,” indicating that the vase was made for export. Its richly layered floral decoration and compact baluster form make it an especially appealing accent for a mantel, bookshelf, console, or collected interior.

CONDITION

Good antique condition with surface wear, oxidation, minor enamel irregularities, and evidence of age and use. No major damage is apparent in the available photographs. Please review all images carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

This is a vintage decorative vessel and has not been tested for holding water. A liner is recommended if used with fresh flowers.
