Pair of Vintage Chinese Sancai Glazed Ceramic Immortal Figures – China

Description

A striking pair of vintage Chinese ceramic figures depicting Daoist immortals or sages, modeled standing among stylized swirling clouds.

The figures are decorated in the traditional sancai-inspired palette of mustard yellow, green, aubergine brown and cream. One depicts an elderly bearded scholar in a long yellow robe and official-style cap; his companion is modeled in a brown robe carrying a staff and wearing a circular hat or implement across his back.

The underside bears an impressed “CHINA” mark, consistent with pieces made for the export market. Based on the construction, glazing and mark, we would describe these as early-to-mid 20th century, likely circa 1920s–1950s.

Dimensions: approximately 10” H × 4.5” W × 4.5” D for the larger figure.

Condition: Vintage condition with significant age-related wear. Both figures have losses to the hands/held attributes, including a conspicuous missing element on the yellow-robed figure, together with scattered glaze chips and surface wear. Please review photographs carefully. These imperfections have been considered in the price.
