A striking vintage tribal kilim runner, handwoven in wool and distinguished by its unusually generous 10-foot length and richly patterned geometric composition.

The deep indigo field is arranged in horizontal bands of stepped diamonds, star-like medallions, and smaller geometric devices, framed by a graphic ivory-and-brown reciprocal border. Stylized end panels and a beautifully softened palette of dusty rose, muted teal, brown, ivory, and touches of red give the textile a wonderfully timeworn character.

Likely woven in northwestern Persia or the southern Caucasus during the mid-20th century, this substantial flatweave would make a handsome foundation for a long hallway, gallery, library, or living space. Its broad width also makes it suitable for use as a narrow area rug.

CONDITION

Good vintage condition with considerable age-related character. The kilim displays fading, color variation, irregularities to the weave and edges, end wear, and numerous old stitched repairs or reinforced areas. These details are visible in the photographs and are consistent with the textile’s age and history of use.

Because this is a vintage handmade textile, dimensions and shape may vary slightly. A nonslip rug pad is recommended.
