Pair of Large Japanese Imari Porcelain Chargers, 17.75”, Meiji/Taishō Period

Description
A striking matched pair of large Japanese Imari porcelain chargers, each measuring approximately 17.75 inches in diameter.

Decorated in the traditional Imari palette of deep cobalt blue, iron red, green, yellow and gilt, the chargers feature alternating reserves of flowering plants and stylized birds surrounding a central floral medallion. The bold segmented composition, generous scale and vivid hand-painted decoration give the pair excellent decorative presence.

The reverse of each charger bears Japanese workshop markings, including a red painted inscription and impressed mark. These pieces are consistent with late Meiji to Taishō period Japanese export porcelain, dating approximately 1890–1925.

Their nearly 18-inch diameter makes them ideal for wall display, a dining room, entryway, large sideboard, mantel, or as a symmetrical decorative pair flanking artwork or a mirror.
