Pre-Columbian Style Polychrome Pottery Vessel with Geometric Decoration

An evocative hand-built earthenware vessel featuring bold geometric decoration in earthy red, black, and brown pigments. The low rounded form is centered by a wide mouth with small pierced lug projections and surrounded by repeating linear and geometric motifs.

The form, painted decoration, and surface character are reminiscent of ancient Mesoamerican pottery traditions, including ceramics associated with the Chupícuaro culture of Pre-Columbian Mexico. This attribution has not been independently authenticated, and the vessel is therefore offered conservatively as Pre-Columbian style / possibly ancient pottery.

The surface displays considerable age-related character, including pigment loss, discoloration, encrustation and deposits. Several cracks and losses are present, including cracks extending from the rim. These condition issues are clearly visible in the photographs and contribute to the archaeological character of the piece.

A fascinating decorative and study object with a strong sculptural presence despite its compact size.
